The Canadian beauty, 45 — who famously once declared that she and other supermodels “don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day” — and Morton, 64, broke up at the end of the summer after a series of disagreements, we’re told.
One family source said, “Peter is very settled in Malibu and loves LA, while Linda liked to spend time in Canada and with her friends in New York. Like all supermodels, she is high-maintenance and likes to be treated like a princess.
“Some members of Peter’s family were not too fond of her, and were dismayed when she appeared around last Thanksgiving with a large diamond ring on her finger. But the marriage never happened,” the source said.
Evangelista, who started dating Morton in late 2006 when she was pregnant, denied reports the following year that the father of her son, Augustin James, was Salma Hayek’s fiancé, Francois-Henri Pinault.
Evangelista’s agent, Didier Fernandez, said at the time: “She has never said who the father is.”
But sources tell us that billionaire Gucci owner Pinault is in fact the father, and this has caused some rivalry between Evangelista and Hayek, now Pinault’s wife — although, an insider added, “They get along for appearances and when the kids are together.”
Despite her turbulent love life, the perennial Vogue covergirl’s modeling career is still going strong. Evangelista is a face of L’Oreal and she recently landed a fall campaign for womens wear retailer Talbots to herald a company relaunch.
Fernandez last night declined to comment, saying, “Linda has no press agent.” Staff at Morton’s office said “no comment” and Hayek’s rep also declined to comment.
